Disappointing Balls

By pog | March 8, 2009

Everyone here in the US (well, everyone I have spoken to on the subject) has been telling me that the Football in the US is way better than it is in the UK. Now I have had the “pleasure” of watching some American Football (The Superbowl), here is my analysis;

11 Seconds of play followed by 11 seconds of review of the previous 11 seconds, followed by two men in suits talking about the eleven seconds followed by 4 minutes of ads – exciting stuff.

Admittedly, I only watched 30 minutes (would have been 10 had my eyelids not been sown back by some local football fans who proceeded to hold me in front of a widescreen TV), but I think that the above is nevertheless, a fairly accurate portrayal of the game. To be fair, there is no hooliganism here and people would not think twice about taking their offspring to a game, which is kinda nice. The only assaults which take place are on the digestive systems of the spectators by way of crappy beer and hotdogs.

Mind you, I don’t like English Football either. I have played sports but I have never had the desire to watch them. To me, sport is like porn. I would rather be doing it than watching it.

Hmmmm, Spam

By pog | January 31, 2009

I always thought e-mail Spam was the only truly randomly targeted sales literature. Until that is, my wife Lisa, received the letter below. I think it speaks for itself.

Of course, she could be trying to tell me something.

More FiFi News

By pog | October 29, 2008

The scones there are now vegan. Oh my, they are good. Mind you, it was the first scone I had eaten in 11 years.

My DW just told me that the location used to be an animal shelter and that Madam FiFi (the cat) was adopted from there.

What a charming story eh.

You Know You Want To

By pog | October 28, 2008

Us vegans have a tough time finding tea rooms which cater for us. Imagine my delight when, whilst visiting a gorgeous tea room in an idyllic setting the owner of four moths, Christine, was receptive to the possibility of adding vegan fare to her menu.

Madam FiFi’s Tea Room and Gift Shop is a charming venue with a 1920’s theme. The atmosphere is very friendly and the background music is unobtrusive and pleasant. After one week sure enough, vegan items had been added. I must say, the snicker doodles were already vegan and delicious as was the freshly ground coffee. There is also a huge selection of freshly made loose tea to choose from.

The new vegan food, which includes homemade houmous (hummus if you are American), pitas and a homemade dressing were both fresh and very tasty indeed. Christine takes pride in her work and this is clearly demonstrated by the level of service and the excellence of the food. Vegan or not, you must visit. There is a beautiful pond just adjacent to the tea room which includes ducks and chickens which you are encouraged to feed with food via the nearby dispensers but at 25 cents for a palmful, you are advised to bring you own duck food. If you do, please bring proper duck food as bread has very little nutritional value and can cause ponds to suffer from excessive silting.

Whilst enjoying my food, I pondered why the Tea Room was named Madam FiFi’s making the assumption that it is named after a 1920’s celebrity. Nope, Christine named the tea room after her cat, Madam FiFi.

Vegan Weirdo

By pog | October 5, 2008

Yesterday, some people asked me why I am vegan. They asked me with the look.

I didn’t have time to explain yesterday so I told them that I would post something on my blog. So here it is; Why I Am Vegan.

After reading this, you decide. Am I weird or perhaps, just maybe, compassionate?

Apples and Hamsters

By pog | September 13, 2008

Just installed iTunes, version 8. How exciting I mused, a new feature. The Music Genius. Select a song from your library and iTunes pops-off to its store and makes recommendations, boasts iTunes.

Ooooh, must give this a try I thought, and selected Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven. One of the suggestions; The Hamster Dance Song by Hampton The Hamster.

Not familiar with our little furry friends work? Take a peek.

Recommendations will get better over time, say iTunes. I’m not so sure I want that. I have now discovered an entire new world of rodent funk hitherto unknown to me.
